Former Prince Higashifushimi’s Hayama Villa
Also known as “Higashifushimi-no-miya Hayama Villa,”
this residence is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
Overlooking the sparkling waters of Sagami Bay, the Former Prince Higashifushimi’s Hayama Villa is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. Built in 1914 (Taishō 3) as the Hayama retreat of Prince Higashifushimi Yorihito, this historic residence continues to convey the charm of early modern Hayama.
Designed by Kozaburo Kigo, an engineer of the Imperial Household Ministry’s Bureau of Construction who also worked on the Hayama Imperial Villa, the building is distinguished by its green roof and white German-style weatherboard walls. Combining traditional Japanese and Western architectural elements, it exudes both elegance and dignity—befitting its origins as an imperial family villa.
